The
best match racing teams in the world are in town as the world awaits the start
of the final event in the World Match Racing Tour the Monsoon Cup. With just a
few hours to go the shores of Terengganu have been greeted with sunshine which
is a welcome break from the past ten days of heavy rainfall.
A new Tour Newsletter was recently released with info on the Monsoon Cup and reviews form both Bermuda and Portugal. The article form Bermuda includes a very happy Johnie Berntsson.
The World Match Racing Tour has announced a new invite policy for the 2009 season that rewards skippers and teams with guaranteed entries on the series for next year, “This is an unprecedented change in the way the World Tour provides entries to its events” explained Craig Mitchell, World Tour Director “for the first time, skippers and teams will have a clear path to win the World Championship, and to guarantee to their sponsors a schedule of participation”
The week of the 1st of December sees the final event of the World Match Racing Tour, the Monsoon Cup in Malaysia where the ISAF Match Racing World Champion will be crowned.
Extensive TV coverage is planned with four daily highlights shows going out on 2, 3, 4, 5 December plus 2 hours of live coverage from 2-4 pm local time (GMT +8) each day on 6 and 7 December.
The climax of the 2008 World Match Racing Tour, is the Monsoon Cup in Malaysia which will be sailed from 3rd to 7th December 2008. The Monsoon Cup is the last stage of the 2008 Tour and is shaping up to be the most exciting event of the year.
Even though it is cold outside the planning for Match Cup Sweden 2009 is running at high speed. We now have confirmation for the dates next summer. Match Cup Sweden 2009 takes place during week 27, from the 29th June to 5th July 2009.

On
yet another spectacular day of match race sailing on Hamilton Harbour,
Johnie Berntsson (SWE) has defeated Adam
Minoprio (NZL) in a
decisive 3-1 Final for the prestigious King Edward VII Gold Cup. This was only Berntsson’s second Tour event
this year as a skipper, and for his efforts Berntsson and his team of
Johan Backman, Bjorn Lundgren, and Martin Berntsson have won the top
$50,000 prize of the $100,000 total purse.
