After four sailing victories today Magnus Holmberg is on
his way to a spot in the quarter finals in Match Cup Sweden. In hot summer sun and weak
winds, twelve of the world’s best Match racing sailors in the world sailed
seven matches the second day of the world championship race in Match racing. Holmberg
is only one point after leading Jes Gram-Hansen, Denmark, 7 points, but is hunted by
a whole flock of international star sailors.
“We are really happy if we succeed to go to
quarter finals”, Magnus

The Pelle
P-branded boat was shining in the Marstrand sun in the men’s Open Class in
Match Cup Sweden,
not only from the silver letters on the hull, but from the handling of Gothenburg
skipper Mattias Rahm
and his team. He won with great security over three of the best sailors on
World Match Racing Tour, Björn
Hansen, Sébastien
Col and Paolo Cian in his three
first matches on Tuesday.

All three
Swedish ladies secured their spots in the semi finals of Match Cup Sweden, Women
class. Jenny Axhede
showed her unbeatable class winning all her seven matches, while 23 years young
Anna Kjellberg made a sensational breakthrough in the international sailing
world, winning five matches. Linda
Rahm and Claire
Leroy each won six matches which secured their semi final
spots.

Match Cup Sweden was opened
during Monday evening with a parade through Marstrand. After that followed an
official dinner where the boats used in the race paraded in strong winds and
sunshine. One of the speakers during the dinner was the chairman of GKSS,
Stefan Holmgren.
“We have a
fantastic week ahead of us with some world class sailing.”

Jenny Axhede from Göteborg was unbeatable today
when the women’s class began their racing in Match Cup Sweden. Three
wins in a row commanded respect amongst the other participants, who together
with Jenny constitutes the female sailing elite in the world.

champion in Match racing, Peter Gilmour, strengthens his team with the Swede
Jonnie Berntsson as tactician in Match Cup Sweden. The news was presented at a
press conference in Marstrand on Monday morning in conjunction with the start
of the fourth World championship stage.

Twelve of the world’s best match race skippers are confirmed to do battle next week in Match Cup Sweden, the fourth stage of the World Match Racing Tour. Included among these are the first seven currently topping the Tour leaderboard, with racing scheduled to commence for the Open division on 1 July and end on Sunday 6 July in Marstrand. At stake are valuable points towards the World Championship, not to mention a piece of the US$200,000 prize money purse.
