After two of the nine stages of the World Match Racing Tour, Team Pindar skippered by Ian Williams leads the World Match Racing Championship standings with 27 points. Williams scored points in the first two events and has a slim, one point lead over Sweden’s Bjorn Hansen. Team Shosholoza’s Paolo Cian and Damien Iehl are two points back in a tie for third.

Match Race Germany ended today with Damien Iehl’s French Match Racing
Team taking 1st place in a best of three final against Jes Gram
Hansen’s Trifork Racing of Denmark. Björn Hansen secured his second place in the total 2008 World Championship Standings with his seventh place in Germany. Iehl will sail GKSS Spring Cup May 31 - June 01 in Långedrag, the qualifier for Match Cup Sweden. Nordic sailors Johnie Berntson and Staffan Lindeberg will give him a tough match for a starting ticket in Marstrand.

Ten of the world’s best skippers are confirmed to participate in Match Cup Sweden, the fourth stage of World Match Racing Tour. Match Cup Sweden in Marstrand, on June 30 to July 6, is one of nine stages in the World championship in Match Racing.
Three Swedish sailing teams are entering, where the championship’s second placed Björn Hansen, Alandia Sailing Team, sails to defend his victory last year.

If match racing can’t hold your attention for the whole day, the entertainment on the shores of Lake Constance certainly could. The live band started in the big tent at lunchtime, and spectators will be enjoying them well into the night. With over 15,000 people soaking up the atmosphere and sun here in Langenargen, it’s hard to tell who’s actually here to watch the racing and who’s here just to enjoy the party happening on the shore.

After second place in Brasil Sailing Cup and the same position in the 2008 World Championship Standings Bjorn Hansen now aims for a victory in the upcoming Match Race Germany. Hansen, who took a historic first Swedish triumph in Marstrand 2007 will be the only Swede to sail in beautiful Lake Constance which is bordered by Germany, Switzerland and Austria. After the event in Germany, the World Tour continues to Korea before entering Marstrand and Sweden on June 30th 2008.

In an anticlimactic fifth and final match where a dying breeze found rival Bjorn Hansen (SWE) on the wrong side of a huge shift, Italian Paolo Cian and his Team Shosholoza managed to navigate through the zephyrs and win the 2008 Brasil Sailing Cup. For their efforts, Cian and his crew of Pierluigi Fornelli, Antar Vigma, Pierluigi De Felice, and Teva Plichard won the top prize of US$36,000 of the $150,000 total purse in this first event of the 2008 World Match Racing Tour.
