Brandspot GKSS World Match Racing Tour
Corporate Event Marketing Forum, Marstrand PDF Print E-mail

inv_0106_litenWhy are more corporations using large events in their marketing? Is it really profitable to engage in Event Marketing? These are two of the questions raised at Corporate Event Marketing Forum, the first business seminar on top management level arranged at Marstrand July 6, during Match Cup Sweden. Volvo’s CEO Leif Johansson, Investor’s Chairman Jacob Wallenberg and Globe Arenas CEO Ninna Engberg are three of all the prominent top speakers.

Match Cup Sweden in Marstrand, July 2-8, is the largest sailing event in Sweden. With its brand new and long term event concept this year, it also contains the first edition of the business seminar Corporate Event Marketing Forum. The initiative comes from Brandspot, who has signed an eleven year long contract with GKSS (The Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club) to arrange Match Cup Sweden.

- We founded the seminar to give an already fantastic sailing event a new dimension, but also because we saw the need to lift the marketing issues to the highest management and board levels, explains Jan Torstenson, managing director for Brandspot and earlier Corporate marketing manager at SEB.

The issue for discussion at the first Forum is high on the companies’ and municipalities’ agendas. Is it worth to invest in large international events in order to strengthen client and employee relations or to entice visitors to a destination? Is it economically defendable from the societies and competitive perspective, or is it more of a large risk?

-The significance and dominance of the event in client relations are increasing, but so are the capital investments. That’s why it is important to discuss if the commitments are effectual, if the ventures are profitable or if they result in more labour and work opportunities, says Jan Torstenson.

The issue is of great interest, which is highlighted by the number of top managers who have signed up for the event, both as speakers and as listeners. Among the speakers are top decision makers with many years experience of huge events, Volvo’s CEO Leif Johansson, Investor’s chairman Jacob Wallenberg, Gothenburg’s City Councillor Chairman Göran Johansson, Globen Arena’s CEO Ninna Engberg, David Erixon, Global Brand manager Vodafone Group (responsible for all Formula 1 sponsoring), Bosse Gentzel, TV anchorman who is also political adviser to the Swedish Minister of Athletics/Sports. Lars Adaktusson, News anchorman at TV8 will be the moderator.

- Naturally it is extremely gratifying that we have so many knowledgeable speakers, but it also shows that this issue engages on the highest business levels. Corporate Event Marketing Forum will be a yearly event for the business society and decision makers in Sweden, and another strong reason, besides World class Match race sailing, to come to Marstrand during Match Cup Sweden, Jan Torstenson explains.
