Match Cup Sweden recently signed an agreement with World Childhood Foundation that makes them the official charity of the sailing event. The agreement also grants them a yearly donation from Match cup Sweden. “It feels great to us, as an international sailing event, to take active social responsibility and contribute to World Childhood Foundation’s efforts,” says Jan Torstenson, Managing Director at Brandspot, the organiser of Match Cup Sweden.
World Childhood Foundation was founded in 1999 by H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden and supports projects that address the social, emotional and material poverty of children around the world. The new five-year cooperation between the foundation and the Swedish organisation for world championship match racing was made public during a press meeting at the Scandinavian Boat Show in Stockholm.
“World Childhood Foundation has since its founding worked for children’s rights to remain children. Besides providing World Childhood with the opportunity to spread information about our concerns and significant financial support, this cooperation enables partners and sponsors to combine different purposes with their sponsoring,” Mats Agurén continues.
“With active support of World Childhood’s work, we can create an even more attractive event, meaning that Match Cup Sweden offers a greater value to both our sponsors and spectators,”,explains Jan Torstenson.
Our target is that Match Cup Sweden will be able to grant World Childhood Foundation SEK 750,000 annually from revenues and through charity activities during races in Marstrand. One of the match racing boats will, just like during this year’s race, carry World Childhood’s sail and logo.
The main target groups of World Childhood are street children, children in institutions, and girls and young mothers at risk. The foundation supports more than 110 projects in 14 countries and has offices in Sweden, USA, Germany and Brazil. World Childhood Foundation is financed through support from the original 14 founders, business cooperations and donations.
