The third
and settling match for bronze medal in Match Cup Sweden was won by Linda Rahm,
Gothenburg Royal Yachting Club, in sunny Marstrand on Saturday afternoon. The
team work was tight on Rahm’s boat and they caught the lead all ready on the
first upwind. “We felt we had the upper hand from the start so we had a relaxed and controlled race” says Linda Rahm as entering the pier. “This is a great thing to bring to Lysekil in three weeks.”
It takes two victories out of three matches to win the bronze medal. Jenny Axhede started off by winning the first race, but then something happened. “We didn’t have the edge” says Jenny Axhede. “The races were really tight so you had to have something extra to win. We didn’t have it.”
Linda Rahm took two straight wins and her crew has had some problems during the week. “Yesterday we had a chat with my husband, Mattias Rahm, and we agreed to try a more aggressive style today. It worked out and we will bring this to Lysekil Women’s Match.”
In the last match Axhede had a small advantage but the boats were very close to each other during the main part of the race. At the end of the first upwind leg, Linda Rahm caught some stronger winds and from that moment she controlled the match.
Just like Jenny Axhede she is looking forward to new challenges in Lysekil. “We are boosted. Unfortunately Lotta Harrysson won’t sail with us in Lysekil, but Anna Norlander will be back and we are comfortable with that. “ But first of all Linda Rahm and Stena Bulk Sailing team is going to celebrate the bronze medal.
“Third place is
almost as good as first place. To get back and win after the semi finals is a
great feeling” says Linda Rahm. |
