Flight 1: Holmberg and Mirsky in the lead PDF Utskrift E-post

Flight 1

Mattias RahmMagnus Holmberg 0 -1

Torvar Mirsky – Mathieu Richard 1-0

A close encounter

The first semi final in Match Cup Sweden was a Swedish affair. Mattias Rahm fought an even battle against his America’s Cup-partner Magnus Holmberg.

Magnus gained control and sailed towards Marstrand. Coming around for the first downwind leg Magnus Holmberg forced Mattias Rahm up towards the wind in a dial-up and making Rahm wait for Holmberg coming around the mark, which gave Magnus the lead.

Mattias crew worked hard and managed to close the gap. Prior to crossing the finish line Rahm was ahead with not more than a meter and the two boats were close to each other. To close, was the umpires call who decided that Rahm had blocked the way for Holmberg. Rahm got a penalty just before the finish line. Holmberg took the first win.

Mirsky did not give Richard a chance

Australian Torvar Mirsky, the youngest semi finalist in Match Cup Sweden, did not give French Mathieu Richard a chance in the first flight. Mirsky tricked Richard in the restart and widened the gap with ten seconds when he cut the starting line perfectly. After the great start Mirsky had the flight in his hands, when crossing the finish line he was 20 seconds before Richard.
