Flight 3: Rahm and Richard won PDF Print E-mail

Both Swedish Mattias Rahm and French Mathieu Richard were forced to win to not get knocked out from this year’s Match Cup Sweden. After two even matches, they both did.

Mattias Rahm controlled the start and had a better position than Holmberg. When rounding up for the first downwind leg Rahm was ahead with a couple of boat lengths. Coming down to the mark, and after some convincing sailing, Rahm could keep the lead during the rest of the race. The race was even, but the Swede was ahead from the start to the finish line. Holmberg still has the overall lead with two wins against Rahm’s one.

In the other race French Mathieu Richard won the start against Torvar Mirsky. The two boats chose completely different routes when beating up to the mark but Richard kept the lead. At the first downwind leg, after raising the spinnaker perfectly, the Australian challenged Richard for the lead but could not pass. Richard managed to push Mirsky away from the mark when rounding up for the upwind leg and was ahead with one boat length. The boats collided when rounding the mark for the last leg before the finish. Both boats protested, and the umpires ruled in favour for Richard. That settled this match.
