Flight 6: Swedes won first matches PDF Utskrift E-post

Swedish skipper Magnus Holmberg won his first match against Mathieu Richard, and Mattias Rahm won his battle with Australian Torvar Mirsky.

In the fight for third price, Mathieu Richard immediately received a penalty in the prestart, touching Magnus’ boat just before start. That enabled Magnus to get a better line and the lead. On tack toward the Marstrand cliffs Magnus crossed over the course boarder line and was penalised, which eliminated Richards earlier penalty.
Magnus Holmberg kept his advantage when sailing close to land and made his roundings perfectly before Mathieu. He won the first match 10 seconds before the Frenchman.

You could actually see how focused Mattias Rahm was, bending over, watching his opponent Torvar Mirsky and accelerating away over the starting line. The crew’s moves were tight, calm and fast but Mirsky’s young crew didn’t leave them much room to extend the lead. At the top mark, Mattias rounded first but Mirsky did all to steal his wind, which led to a number of tough tacking duels.

Rushing downwind, Mattias succeeded to gybe when surfing on top of a wave, while Mirsky hade a troubled spinnaker while being in a trough. The extended the short lead Rahm had built up, and he could save his victory in the first final match.
