Flight 7: Bronze to Holmberg and Rahm is chasing gold PDF Utskrift E-post

holmberg_small.jpgTwo straight victories for Magnus Holmberg, Gothenburg Royal Yachting Club easily gave him a bronze medal in the match against French Mathieu Richard. Mattias Rahm is hungry for gold and after two straight wins against Australian Torvar Mirsky his is close. If next race ends up with a third victory the results for Match Cup Sweden 2008 are done.

The Final’s second race was thrilling in the end and the spectators on the balcony took their breath while watching Rahm’s boat crossing the line just centimetres before Mirsky’s. Rahm made the better start. But that did not have any impact on the first upwind since Mirsky was the first to round the buoy. On the first downwind leg Mirsky got a penalty which gave Rahm an advantage.

Mirsky had the lead with 19 seconds according to speaker Martin Sothell on the last downwind leg. He took his penalty just in front of the finish line, which allowed Rahm to sneak up and pick the victory. Thrilling.

Magnus Holmberg was calm and relaxed. Richard made a false start and Holmberg took advantage of his mistake by extending his lead. He pushed Richard out on the second upwind leg and on the last downwind leg he had a distance of 3 boat length to Mathieu Richard, number four in Match Cup Sweden 2008.
