Frederikshavn becomes the host city of
one of Denmark’s biggest yachting events of the year, some of the
finest yachtsmen will be in attendance. The city looks forward to
welcoming the world with open arms.Frederikshavn Municipality
constitutes the peak of the European continent and thanks to its
geographical location at the top of the Jutlandic peninsula; the area
has become famous as the land of light and as the place where two
oceans meet. Frederikshavn is one of the biggest ferry ports of Europe
– a few hours by sea from Oslo in Norway and Gothenburg in Sweden.
Choosing
Frederikshavn as the venue of Danish Open 2008 is part of a
well-defined strategy to make Frederikshavn Municipality the natural
location for major cultural and sporting events, and not least the
obvious choice as the city hosting international yachting events.
Frederikshavn has what it takes to host the event and will ensure that
the Danish Open will be a unique experience to be remembered with joy
by participants and spectators alike for years to come.

Frederikshavn
is a municipality that has always lived from and with the sea having
more than 60 miles (100 km) of glorious coastline. For generations the
proximity of the sea has influenced the development in which
Frederikshavn takes an active part. The two other major coastal cities,
Sæby to the south and Skagen to the north, take pride in their past
traditions of fishing, shipyards and other related maritime occupations.
Some
of Denmark’s finest beaches combine the potential for developing
tourism and the events economy with a strong business community
constantly renewing itself in line with time.

The water, the
wind and a strong will are all elements which play a part in
characterising Frederikshavn - the City of Energy. Four large,
sea-based windmills are only the first step in a strategy that in 2015
will turn Frederikshavn into a city depending 100 per cent on renewable
energies within power, heat and transport.
The City of
Frederikshavn will become a full-scale science centre designed to show
the world how to aim for a sustainable future without compromising
progress and economic growth. At the same time, the City of Energy will
help emphasise the fact that in our more globalised world – nobody can
make a difference by themselves
Frederikshavn has something to
show the world and the World Tour is proud to be part of the exciting
advances Denmark is contributing to a greener environment for future
generations. We would like to thank the municipality of Frederikshavn
for welcoming the World Tour and wish them every success with their
event and future developments.
