Match Cup Sweden's magazine, THE ISLAND, has been nominated for The Swedish Publishing Awards 2008 in the category “Information magazine of the year”.
THE ISLAND is published in connection to Match Cup Sweden in Marstrand and produced by Aller Custom Publishing on behalf of Brandspot. With well-written articles and an exciting imagery it deepens the
understanding of sailing in general and competition match racing in
particular.
THE ISLAND communicates to a modern audience that may not scrutinize boating magazines, but who have an appreciation of beauty, interest in nature and an ability to enjoy everyday life. It is basically an immodest tribute to the world's most beautiful sport.
“We are, of course, very happy that THE ISLAND is recognised and appreciated by the critical eyes of the magazine industry”, says Jan Torstenson, president of Brandspot.
The magazine was published, for the first time, in the summer of 2007 and focused on Marstrand as the centre of Match Cup Sweden. It was full filled with a mixture of interviews, from well known profiles of Marstrand as Peter Hjörne and Ebba von Sydow, and essays on the marine life attraction, particularly to capture the unique visual aspect of this lovely island.
This year's edition focused on sailing. In a close report from Vitòria in Brazil, we followed the world's best skippers behind the scenes during a competition. We took a closer look at how sailing is framed in film, music, design and fashion. And we gave our readers an exclusive meeting with Her Royal Highness, Princess Madeleine.
“The purpose of THE ISLAND is to spread the knowledge and the sense of Match Cup Sweden also outside the Gothenburg area, and it has turned out well”, says Jan Torstenson.
The Swedish Publishing Awards is arranged by the company Populär Kommunikation. Ever since 1990 they have been electing the best newspapers, magazines, books and other printed material of the year. All nominees will be exhibited at the Book Fair in Gothenburg the 25th -28th of September. The winners will be elected at the Swedish Publishing Awards in Stockholm on Thursday, the 16th of October.
THE ISLAND is published once a year by Brandspot. The magazine has a circulation of 35 000 copies and is distributed with Elle and Café, and on-site at Match Cup Sweden in Marstrand.
