Col wins Troia Portugal Match Cup in tide-strewn blustery finale

 Second win on the 2008 World Tour, earned 2-0 against runner-up Magnus Holmberg.

After a long day that started with having to defeat one of his own team mates from the French Match Racing Team, Sebastian Col (FRA) and his crew of Gilles Favennec, Christophe Andre, Philippe Mourniac, and Olivier Douliard have won the Troia Portugal Match Cup. Getting past Magnus Holmberg (SWE) and his Victory Challenge team 2-0 in an exciting Final series, Col and crew have taken the top prize of US$30,000 of the $125,000 purse and earned 25 points on the 2008 World Tour leaderboard.

Points mean prizes

 At 1850m the St Moritz match race is the highest match race in the world and this year saw a new boat arrive on the scene. The Blu26, a narrow, low freeboard rocket ship that turned out to be a bit of handful for the four man crew. With only three events to go the battle for the Tour championship continues, securing points in Portugal and Bermuda is critical for those who have their eyes on the prize.

Revenge for Williams in Denmark, Berntsson fourth

 The Danish Open ended today with Ian Williams (GBR) of Team Pindar taking 1st place in a best of three final against Sebastien Col (FRA) French Match Racing Team/K-Challenge. In the deciding match of the semi final, Williams trailed Berntsson all the way round the course until the final run. After splitting gybes halfway down the run, when the pair met again Berntsson gybed in front of Williams but the extra speed that Williams carried enabled him to roll over Berntsson and slide around his bow and book his berth in the finals, his second of the year.

WMRT heads to Frederikshavn

 Frederikshavn becomes the host city of one of Denmark’s biggest yachting events of the year, some of the finest yachtsmen will be in attendance. The city looks forward to welcoming the world with open arms.Frederikshavn Municipality constitutes the peak of the European continent and thanks to its geographical location at the top of the Jutlandic peninsula; the area has become famous as the land of light and as the place where two oceans meet. Frederikshavn is one of the biggest ferry ports of Europe – a few hours by sea from Oslo in Norway and Gothenburg in Sweden.
